Temporal resolution

Analytical science not only concerns snapshot-type measurements, but also the dynamics and fate of molecules in dynamic equilibrium, or intermediates in processes and reactions. Understanding substances in these situations requires techniques that can measure at high temporal resolution: ranging from femtosecond for reaction modelling/ understanding to picosecond and longer (conformational changes). Highly challenging application areas are in material and life sciences. Relevant timescales can range from minutes to nanoseconds.
