We would like to congratulate 16 ASTP graduates, 6 MSc+ graduates, 15 new ASTP students and 7 new MSc+ students of the COAST-community!
On November 15th, 2017, the 5th edition of the Topsector Chemistry Granting & Graduation Event was hosted by COAST, ISPT, VNCI and Topsector Chemistry. During this festive event, that took place against the beautiful backdrop of the Spoorwegmuseum in Utrecht, we introduced the new talents and celebrated the graduation of those who have completed the Talent Programs successfully.
The first half of the evening was led by presenter Joost Hoebink. He started his presentation with an invitation to all guests to participate through an interactive tool on mobile phones. This took the audience through a number of issues focused on grand societal challenges and the role chemistry and citizens can play in solving these. During this session, Hoebink interviewed Oscar van den Brink as director Topsector Chemistry. Thereafter, Atze Jan van der Goot (Wageningen University) gave a presentation about the consumption of meat in today's society and the role of science in the development of special meat substitutes (Plant Meat Matters).
Furthermore, the proud winners of the Texel Energy Challenge were presented. Earlier that day, students were challenged to explore the technical and economic feasibility of the power-to-ammonia concept for the island of Texel and pitched the plan to a jury of experts. Two COAST-ASTP students, Rocio Garmendia and Charlotte de Fluiter, were among the four winners that could share a prize of € 1000 between them. At the end of the plenary session the new talents were welcomed and the graduates congratulated.
The second part of the evening was dedicated to the granting and graduation of the students in parallel sessions, one of which was COAST’s. We celebrated the graduation of 22 COAST students who completed their talent programs (16 from ASTP and 6 from MSc +). Iris de Lange presented the evening and told inspiring and funny anecdotes about each student. Some of the students already have new jobs, others continue studying. All are fully prepared to strengthen the analytical community. We wish them all great lives and great careers and we are looking forward to interact with them through the COAST ALUMNI network or otherwise.
